Bone Density Measurement (BDM) is non invasive technology used to measure bone mass. The examination is indicated in women over 40 years of age, and after menopause onset. Also, BDM may be useful in patients with or without brittle bone disease (osteogenesis imperfecta, OI) for the assessment of fracture risk and evaluation of the treatment outcome.
At IASO Thessaly, BDM is carried out with a machine that is specially designed for this purpose and applies dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). This technique is the fasted method currently available, delivering the least radiation dose. The examination results are readily available, while new results can be compared to old ones to help physicians decide on the progress of the applied treatment.
